Beaufort Digital Corridor Announces Organizational Transitions

BEAUFORT, S.C. –- Having helped establish Beaufort Digital Corridor (BDC) as a bridge between education and the local workforce – and after five years as the organization's Executive Director – Jess O'Brien is transitioning to a new role at an organization that combines her interests in health care and marketing.

"Jess' leadership has positioned Beaufort Digital Corridor as one of the country's premier incubators of tech talent," said Rich Conte, BDC's Chairman of the Board. "Her impact cannot be overstated: During O'Brien's tenure, the BDC reached hundreds of community members through hands-on training, career exploration, and entrepreneurship programming. We appreciate her contributions which have been instrumental in preparing BDC for its current expansion plan."

The transition comes as the Beaufort Digital Corridor advances under a new strategic vision adopted by its Board of Directors at the beginning of 2026. The vision outlines priorities for workforce development, innovation and economic resilience across the Lowcountry.

The Beaufort Digital Corridor supports entrepreneurs, technologists, creatives and community members through coworking, education and events, with programming focused on expanding access to technology-enabled career pathways.

Looking ahead to 2026, the Beaufort Digital Corridor will continue advancing initiatives aligned with its strategic vision. These include awarding 500 Grow with Google Career Certificates scholarships to local residents and developing a community podcast studio to support local voices, entrepreneurs and organizations. Construction on the podcast studio is underway with support from a charitable giving grant from Sparklight.

"The Beaufort Digital Corridor is well positioned for what's next," O'Brien said. "With a clear strategic vision and strong board leadership, the organization will continue creating opportunities for entrepreneurs and the local workforce."

O'Brien will remain active in the Beaufort community. Additional details regarding her next role will be announced at a later date.

During this period, Rich Conte will serve as the interim point of contact for the Beaufort Digital Corridor and can be reached at rich@beaufortdigital.com.

Community members are invited to attend the Beaufort Digital Corridor's February TECHconnect event on Thursday, Feb. 19, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at 500 Carteret St., Suite D. The event will serve as a farewell celebration recognizing executive director Jess O'Brien's leadership and her lasting contributions to the Beaufort Digital Corridor and the broader community.

The Beaufort Digital Corridor Board of Directors said additional information about the organization's next chapter will be shared in the coming weeks.
